AI Assisted Work Flows

Human Insights Powered with AI Analysis

We had a problem at Starling Minds. We had more data than we could analyze and without analysis, the data was useless. We built an AI to write SQL queries in a secure data lake. This enabled non-technical users to query our data using natural language. This tool revolutionized our business, and work flows rapidly optimized with data on demand.

Human Skills Augmented with Generative AI

The next AI assisted workflow we developed was rapid prototyping using generative AI models. This enabled our instructional design team to get ideas to a test and review stage much faster.

Empowering the Team with Design

Disseminating Design Systems and Training

Teams need to be agile and empowered with decision-making. As Director of Content, it was important to me to multi-thread design principles and systems through as many people as possible. By distributing the responsibility for implementing design standards, maintaining them became second nature to our team.

We accomplished this with in-house interactive design training sessions, collaborative design documentation, and ongoing standards alignment.

Individuals have individual needs

Heuristic Content Personalization System

At Starling, I led the design of a heuristics-based content personalization system, developed to match individual users with the most appropriate therapeutic content for their current needs.

Rather than all users receiving the same information, we developed a system to determine the most relevant information for each user on both a macroscopic and microscopic level. The system is smart enough to adapt in real time to changes in each individuals inputs as they move dynamically through each piece of training content.

Making it Simple

Micro Learning Daily Recommendation System

At Starling we created thousands of hours of digital mental fitness training content. An individual user needed a place to start.

We created a delivery system for this content based on the data generated by each individual user.

This involved breaking complex topics up into 2-3 minute micro learning bites and scaffolding users into more in-depth, long form training based on their available time and personal mental health needs.

Understand and Iterate

Foundational User Testing Program

When you’re responsible for delivering outcomes fast, one of the first things to neglect is testing. However, if you’re developing truly new technology or products it’s essential to do the research. Understanding how what you’ve built impacts the people you built it for is an essential feedback loop. You cannot be a passive receiver of feedback. By the time a user has reported an issue, you’ve already lost many more.

This user testing program established a foundational fly-wheel of feedback that the team used to iterate rapidly on our emerging technologies.
